Die Leute aus Sary Mogul
Sary Mogul is located in the Pamir Alai in the southwestern part on Kyrgyzstan. The Pamir Alai valley was one major throughway of the silk roads from Kashgar to Bukhara. Stretching in east-westerly direction, elevations are at 3800 to 3000 meters leveling out in Tajikistan. Today limited trading of daily goods from China via the Irkeshtam Pass and scrap metal in return is seen in the Pamir Alai while most of the trade is routed north to Osh. However, Sary Tash and neighboring Kashka-Suu see some visitors on their way to the base camp of Pik Lenin, which is located just south of the village. Farming including cows, goats, and sheep provide the income of the community that is rented out by the Kyrgyz government to Tajikistan. A Chinese oil exploration compound at the southern end of village is suspicious to the villagers because the Chinese worker do not seek contact and the legal ground of such operations is, as seen in entire Kyrgyzstan, shallow. A school, several mosques, as well as several little kiosks and Thursday's market (bazaar) is the fabric keeping the community alive.
